How a quote request works

  1. Tell us the pest and your townPick what you found, add your town and a phone number. A line about where you saw it and for how long helps the company price it.
  2. Up to three companies get in touchYour request goes to up to three exterminators who handle that pest. They call or text with questions and a price.
  3. Check them before anyone treatsLook up each company's NYSDEC registration on NYSPAD and compare what each price includes. Then pick who comes out, or nobody.

Every pest company in New York has a state registration

NYSDEC requires every pest control business location to register, employ a certified applicator for each kind of work it does, and carry at least $1,000,000 in liability insurance. The registration number is public in the state's NYSPAD database, and it is the first thing to check.

Before you hire an exterminator

How much does an exterminator cost on Long Island?

Quest Pest Control, which serves Nassau, Suffolk and Queens, lists a one-time treatment for general pests such as ants and cockroaches at $150 to $350, or $300 to $600 a year for quarterly service (February 2024). Termite and bed bug work costs more, and each of those pages has the local numbers.

How do I know if a pest control company is legitimate?

Ask for its NYSDEC business registration number and look it up in NYSPAD, the state's public database. NYSDEC also requires two Registered Pesticide Business decals on every vehicle that carries pesticides.

Does it cost anything to request quotes here?

No. The request is free for homeowners, and you are not obliged to hire anyone who calls.

Can an exterminator remove a raccoon or squirrel?

Only if someone at the company holds a NYSDEC Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator license, which is separate from pesticide registration. DEC keeps a searchable list of licensed operators.
